Most of my time this spring has been spent photographing soccer for two U15 teams. South County High School and BAC United (Burke Athletic Club). Sports photography is very challenging. Combinations of fast equipment and exposures, paired with anticipating what should be a good shot. I usually shoot several hundred shots during a game and choose the best ones to include here in the soccer galleries. For these girls, the memories of their high school experiences will be with them forever. I feel honored to capture these memories in the best possible way for them.
One of the biggest issues photographing sports are "RULES!" High School sports is not so bad. You can usually position yourself just about anywhere as long you dont interfere with the game and you keep your mouth shut. The refs leave you alone. In club soccer you are restricted to certain areas along the sidelines and only on the side opposite the teams. No one cares if the sun is in your eyes. Photographers must remain between the 18's. Yes I have been responsible for play being stopped and asked to move to the proper area. :( Despite the RULES, I still enjoy the challenge.
Once soccer lightens up, I will be back to landscapes and wildlife.
